Description: Tim's MixedTape SongCast
First, the Jesus-freak turns hippy. Then the hippy becomes a Technical Editor. Now he is retired, a heathen, and just plain tired. What's next? Life on the Internet, of course.
Hear Tim spin a delicious mixture of his favorite tunes, and cornpone philosophy.
Music worth loving. Spun by an old lover.

Songs selected by ``invitation''.

Tim's MixedTape SongCast Number 3

Tsnpix100x100

Welcome. This is the playlist for the third Tim's MixedTape SongCast.

If you have any comments regarding this befuddled podman, or suggestions regarding how the songcasts might be improved, send me at email.

Each time I do a songcast, I am overwhelmed by the quality of the music I am able to present. I am truly grateful to the all the performers who allow me to present their work in this forum.

As usual, the current playlist includes an international group of performers: three from the United Kingdom, two from Austria, and the remainder from various sections of the US. I don't plan the playlist based on geography. I just look for the best music I can find that seems to fit together (in my mind, anyway).

I am honored to be able to include a new song by JR, ``Bleed for Love''. It is both beautiful and thought provoking. But I know my listeners are always up to a challenge. I encourage you all to read the lyrics (posted below), then give ``Bleed for Love'' at least one more listen. I'm convinced many of you will decide you want your own personal copy of this emotionally moving song.

Then there's Will Hoge and ``July Moon''. What can I say? ``July Moon'' will get your feet stompin', your hands clappin', and before long you'll be leadin' your favorite honey off to the nearest soft-mossy spot in the shade.

Don't over look ``Wildfire'' by Aron Wright. There is a clean and honest beauty to Aron Wright's music—like a beautiful woman in a simple black dress and pearls.

Then there's Amelia White and Jeff Jepson (country and western, if you will, in my mind anyway).

When I tell people I don't care much for country music, they act surprised. Then they point out all of my Myspace friends who are country musicians. Well, there's an explanation.

When I was a kid, there were three types of country music (that I knew of anyway). You had your straight-up Country, which I didn't much care for. Then you had Western, which I rather liked (even pretty bad Western I found tolerably pleasant). There was also Pop-Country, although I doubt anyone called it Pop-Country in those days. (I pretty much liked the good Pop-Country, and gagged at the bad, which I would now label as sucko-pop-country music.)

Let me beg your indulgence, while I take a small digression. We've all experienced a mucked-up order at a restaurant (items are left in, items are left out), and we've ended up having to pick through our dinner with care. Picking out that which gives us pleasure, and carefully avoiding that which gives us the hives.  For me, it's the same with Country music. I carefully avoid that which gives me the begeevies, and then what gives me pleasure I proudly call ``Folk'' music.

Now getting back to the playlist, Amelia White reminds me why good music is just dang good, no matter what you call it. And, even though he doesn't play Western music, Jeff Jepson reminds me of why I used to like Western music so much (and he's a Brit to boot, go figger).

Well, there's a reason I love everyone of these songs, but I will begin to commence to stop. I'll let you listen to the songcast, and let you fall in love with these songs all by your lonesome (or with a group of friends).

Before I go, let me apologize for mangling people's names. (For example, I put a tee in Aury Moore's first name.) Even though I may be incompetent, my heart is in the right place (or so my doctor claims).

Adieu.

Tim's MixedTape SongCast Number 2

Tsnpix100x100

Welcome. This is the playlist for the second Tim's MixedTape SongCast. Gee, this befuddled podman is still alive and kicking.

So what is a songcast? Well, it's a podcast, but I decided the term``podcast'' was not as ubiquitous, as I had assumed. I discovered many fine folks are unfamiliar with the word. On the other hand, the word ``songcast'' seems to be self-descriptive—with no explanation required.

If you have any comments regarding the songcast, or suggestions regarding how they might be improved, send me at email.

If you would like me to play a short promo (30-90sec.) in a future songcast for your band or CD,  email  me, and we'll discuss it.

Songs are chosen for the songcasts via ``invitation'', not submission.

The songs in SongCast#2 may not answer Alfie's age-out question of what it's all about, but they do suggest where we might start the search for answers.

Doctor Sparkles demonstrates that it is ``The Fool'' who is the final protector of the truth. The  Fool dares to mock the Emperor, sometimes at the risk of his own head. And he defends himself only with a smile, a wink, and a big red hat. Without Fools, we would certainly all be in shackles.

After you listen to the songcast, you undoubtedly will want to find out more about several of the artists and songs. The information listed below should help you find links to websites that will provide the information that you seek.

Enjoy the music. In this songcast, the men are lively, and the women are sweeter than rhubarb pie.

Tim's MixedTape SongCast Number 1

Tsnpix100x100

Welcome. This is the playlist for my very first songcast. Yes, this befuddled podman is now live.

What is a songcast? Well, it's a podcast, but I decided the term``podcast'' was not as ubiquitous, as I had assumed. I discovered many fine folks are unfamiliar with the word. On the other hand, the word ``songcast'' seems to be self-descriptive—with no explanation required

I had felt that this first songcast contained an excellent selection of songs. If the reports I've received back are any indication, you all agree, and that pleases me. I've obtained permission for many fine tunes, and there are some real treats ahead in future songcasts.

In this first songcast I was mainly concerned with technical issues such as getting the software and hardware working, the uploading and distribution of the songcast, making my deadline, etc. I didn't worry so much about my own performance, and, as a result, my performance suffered.

But I'm not a performer, so I don't expect that I will ever be polished, but I do always like to improve; so I requested some ``notes'' from a select group.

After reviewing the notes on my performance, I've decided to stop trying to ``act'' like a DJ. That's why I've switched to this ``MixedTape'' logo. Future songcasts are going to be based on the idea of one friend spinning favorite tunes for another friend.

Below you will find useful artist and song information, which should help you locate performers who tweak your interest. All of the acts are worthy headliners.

Audiences in the states may not be familiar with Hadara Levin-Areddy and Liz Stringer. Please, do what you can to correct that misfortunate circumstance.

Contributed two Station IDs, introduced me to a whole genre that makes up with style and wit for what they may lack in multitudinousness. In addition, I started playing his tunes again with a new appreciation. I now realize what I had missed.

DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed by This Befuddled Podman are his own. They do not represent the viewpoints of the performers appearing in Tim's MixedTape SongCast, the artists and organizations appearing on these web pages, the members of This Befuddled Universe, Mrs. Muddle, unnamed daughter, Chewy, the Podman's long suffering and now departed parents, his brother and two sisters, or Louis Valore.

You might be wondering why I mentioned Louis Valore in the Disclaimer directly above. I thought mentioning someone at the end of my Disclaimer would be a humorous way to give exposure to some person or act that I viewed with regard, but which I wasn't likely to write about in the foreseeable future. Louis Valore isn't my first ``victim''. Louis was preceded by Teddy Abesamis. I plan on alternating victims at frequent, but probably irregular, intervals.

I find Louis Valore's music to be unusual, pleasant, fun, and somewhat mysterious—much like Louis.

You can listen to Louis Valore's song ``Baby Goodbye'' by clicking on the player below.
